Starting this year the range of wines from Albino Rocca will be enriched with a new cru of Barbaresco: BARBARESCO MONTERSINO
Our vineyards in the Montersino cru are located in the hills of San Rocco Seno d’Elvio, a hamlet of Alba that is close to Treiso, and has full southern exposure with a higher altitude than Barbaresco. The soil is calcareous clay with the presence of sandy layers and sandstone, these features bring out the truly elegant characteristics of Nebbiolo.
Until 2011 the grapes from the Montersino vineyard were used along with other younger vineyards in our classic Barbaresco.
2012 was the turning point, when during harvest our father Angelo and Carlo decided to start making wine from the grapes from Montersino as a separate “cru” giving recognition to the maturity and power of this vineyard.
This choice was driven by their awareness and desire to highlight the impact that territorial characteristics of every single cru and its terroir expresses in Nebbiolo.
The production from this vineyard is limited to only 2,600 bottles, which is aged for two years in one large German and Austrian oak barrel.
